Happy Independence Day!

Hello Everyone!  Sheila and I hope you are all having a great summer, whether on or off the island, and that you’ve had a camera with you. We have been working on next year’s photo club schedule and we think you will be pleased. Not everything has been finalized so we will let you know more as fall approaches.

For now, mark your calendars for September 16, which will be our first club meeting of the year. We will continue to meet at Messiah Lutheran Church, but this year we will begin our meetings at 4:00 and will end by no later than 5:30 pm.   Dues will once again be $10, checks payable to Landings Landlovers. You may pay at the meeting or at the Landlovers Opening reception, which will be the following day (Sept. 17, 2-3:30 PM at the Plantation Ballroom). Remember that you or your spouse must be a member of Landlovers in order to be in the Photo Club.

Now for a little summer “homework”….. Please submit ONE photo you took with great exposure that isn’t manipulated in post production and tell us what makes it good. Also, submit ANOTHER ONE that you have taken with great composition (without manipulation – including cropping). See if you can get the composition the way you want it as you take the shot and tell us why you selected the picture you submit. Send them to Sheila (sheilagrossman@comcast.net) or myself (ldcopeland@gmail.com) by September 1.

Planning to take fireworks photos?  Take a tripod, use  a slow shutter speed like 2-8 seconds, consider a low ISO, possibly 200 or so, And apertures between f8 – f16, claim a good place to shoot from, and don’t forget that it’s perfectly OK to place people or memorable objects in the foreground!  Work on timing so you get that perfect shot as the lights are most spectacular.  Have time on your hands before the event?  Google some easy articles about fireworks photography for inspiration and to pick up on even more tips.

Enjoy your summer, have a happy and safe July 4th holiday, and we’ll keep you posted as the summer winds down.
